ABU DHABI - The Abu Dhabi
Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH)
in collaboration with the Turkish Ministry
of Tourism and Culture organised an art
exhibition entitled "Islam: Faith and
Worship" on July 22nd - October 10th, 2009
at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.
The exhibition included
nearly 150 art works, some of which were
displayed for the first time, compiled from
seven museums and national libraries in
Turkey especially for the exhibition.
The exhibition includes many
works that portray the emergence of Arab
crafts through the ages, in addition to
examples of the use of Arab calligraphy in
decoration on metal surfaces, wood work, and
weaving.
Miniature drawings and
manuscripts were also displayed.
The themes include the
biography of Prophet Muhammad, the emergence
of Islam, elements of faith and worship in
Islam, and many other issues.
A range of non-standard
methods of presenting Arab calligraphy are
on display, including scripts on clothes
which reflect symbolism in Islamic art.
There are also on the
sidelines of the exhibition a number of
cultural events, like Sufi shows and
workshops on hand-made Islamic crafts.
