Conference Discusses "Ways of Correcting Image of Islam in West"

An international conference titled "Ways of Correcting the Image of Islam in west" kicked off on Saturday, January 31 in Kuwait, Al-Qabas daily reported.

Kuwait prime minister, Sheikh Naser Mohammad Ahmad Al-Sabah attended the conference which was organized by World Council of Islamic Fiqh( jurisprudence) .

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference, Ayatollah Seyyed Abolghasem Dibaji secretary general of the World Council of Islamic Fiqh said that Muslim minorities and international Islamic bodies bear a heavy responsibility to improve the image of Muslims and noble religion of Islam in western countries.

Further in his remarks, he presented a report on the activities of the council within the past year, saying that the council had valuable achievements in terms of eliminating misunderstanding among different Islamic schools of thought as well as presenting a true image of Islamic religion to non-Muslims and promoting religious moderation against extremism.

Sheikh Mohammad Asiran, prominent Mufti of Lebanon's Sida gave a lecture on western extremist groups, making the point that the groups try to introduce a violent and extremist image of Islam with the help of biased media.

Comprised of prominent clerics and scholars of different Islamic schools of thought , the World Council of Islamic Fiqh, was established in Paris in 2008.
