An international conference will explore
Islamophobia after the September 11
terrorist attacks.
The conference which will be held in Tehran
Oct 6-7 is an attempt to correct the
tarnished image the West is offering of
Islam.
Secretary of the conference Hamidreza
Akhavan said the event is a project by the
ISESCO as part of a string of gatherings and
meetings which focuses on Islamophobia in
the West.
ISESCO is the Islamic, Scientific,
Educational and Cultural organization of the
Organization of the Islamic Conference.
Pointing out that following the collapse of
the former Soviet Union the West tried to
depict Islam as its main enemy in the
world’s public opinion, he also stressed
that the OIC leaders were of the opinion
that Islamophobia was a phenomenon which the
whole world had to confront in a bid to pave
the way for the friendly and peaceful
co-existence among civilizations and
religions.
Twenty-two distinguished scholars and
thinkers from Iran and a number of other
world countries are to present their views
during the conference which is co-sponsored
by Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic
Guidance, Ebn Sina research center and the
Organization of Islamic Communications and
Culture.
