The sixth Islamic unity conference in Damascus, Syria, will kick
off today, March 14.
According to IQNA’s branch in Syria, Aytaollah Mohammad Ali
Taskhiri secretary general of the Forum for
Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, as
well political and religious figures from
Syria, the Islamic Republic of Iran and
Lebanon will be attending the meeting.
The motto of the two-day conference is
“Islam’s way for creating unity in the
Islamic Ummah”. It is organized by the Forum
for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought
with the cooperation of Syria’s Awqaf and
Islamic Affairs Ministry and Iran’s Cultural
Center in Damascus.
The conference will discuss theoretical
bases of Islamic unity according to the holy
Quran and the Sunnah of the holy Prophet (PBUH)
as well as the role of Promotion of Virtue
and Prevention of Vice in boosting Islamic
unity.
Secretary General of

enemy’s crimes against Palestinians, Islamic
sanctities should serve as incentive for
manifestation of Islamic Unity.
Speaking on the
sidelines op the 6th Damascus Islamic Unity
Conference, Ayatollah Mohammad-Ali Taskhiri
added in an interview with IRNA, “The
enemy’s criminal acts should also increase
the Islamic Ummah’s will for resistance
against that enemy.”
The two-day scientific
gathering was sponsored by the Syrian
Endowments Organization, cosponsored by the
IRI Cultural attaché in Damascus, attended
by the Secretary General of the WFPIST
Ayatollah Taskhiri and a number of Islamic
countries’ elites and Islamic personalities,
and held at the Syrian National Library,
called Maktabat ul-Assad.
Taskhiri added, “The
enemy’s criminal acts should provide an
incentive for our greater solidarity aimed
at encountering the oppressors’ plots
against the culture identity and entire
entity of this Ummah. The Ummah should act
solidly aimed at materializing unity and
solid stand taking.”
He added, “All these events show that the
Islamic Ummah would move towards solidarity
and unity in spite of the current
unfavorable conditions, because the Ummah
would reach a shared fate in the course of
the history.”

Monday evening emphasized need for achieving
Islamic unity as soon as possible.
According to Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir),
Speaking with News Agencies on the sidelines
of the closing ceremony of the 6th Damascus
Islamic Unity Conference, he said, “The
Islamic Ummah has initially been a solid
nation and this important point has been
mentioned in the Glorious Qur’an, too.”

by the Secretary General of the WFPIST

of Islamic countries’ elites and Islamic

Eid al-Bari
added, “The ongoing global and regional
developments should not affect the
materializing process of the Islamic unity.”
The Mufti of
Damascus said, “Regardless of the stands of
each Muslim individual, they are all members
of the same unified Ummah and therefore,
they all need to have the shared Islamic
culture.”
He reiterated,
“Everyone should know that we are a solid
Ummah, and our presence is expanded in the
east, west north and south of the globe,
which is why the call of Allah-o-Akbar
echoes throughout the world, calling Muslim
brethren of all races to stand for prayer
before the grandeur of Almighty Allah
altogether.”
The Syrian Grand
Mufti added, “The Holy verse of God’s Book
have reiterated our unity and we are obliged
to heed God’s command in this respect.”

Speaking before
the 6th Conference on Proximity among
Islamic Schools of Thought held in Damascus
on Sunday, al-Sayyid said "Islam has allowed
multiplicity within unity."
The two day
conference will discuss theoretical and
practical conceptions of Islamic unity in
the Holy Quran and the Sunna and means to
confront dangers threatening Muslim unity.
Al-Sayyid called
for unifying efforts to confront plots
targeting the Islamic nation. He said a
human Islamic discourse is required to face
attempts aimed to obliterate the identity of
the Islamic nation.
Grand Mufti of
Syria Ahmad Badr Eddin Hassoun called to
overcome the differences among members of
the nation of Islam and activate dialogue
and cooperation to face the enemies.
Mar Ignatios
Hazim IV of Antioch and all the East for
Roman Orthodox said Muslims and Christians
will always be brothers and will stay
together in the face of challenges.
Participants at
the Conference said Islamic unity is a red
line nobody would be allowed to cross.
They called upon
Islamic scholars to assume responsibility to
find radical solutions to divisions among
Muslims.
An Islamic rather
than sectarian discourse should be adopted
in approaching Muslims' issues.
The conference is
organized by Ministry of Awqaf in
cooperation with the World Assembly for
Proximity among Islamic Schools of Thought
with a wide participation from Syria,
Lebanon, Egypt and Iran.
