The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) participated on 20-24 June 2009 in a joint evaluation mission of the political situation in Comoros following the constitutional referendum that took place in the country on 17 May 2009.

The joint evaluation mission was conducted by Minister Francisco Madiera, Special Envoy of the President of the African Union (AU). It included, in addition, the representatives of the UN, the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), the OIC, the International Organization of Francophonie (OIF), the League of Arab States and the African Union.

During their stay in Comoros, the members of the joint mission met with His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Abdallah Mohamed Sambi, President of the Union of Comoros and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs. They have also had discussions with the authorities of Anjouan and Mohéli Islands as well as with the officials of the political parties, members of Comoros civil society and representatives of the international community based in Maroni.
