An international conference began in the
city of Zaragoza, September 23, featuring
Islam and dialogue among civilizations, KUNA
reports.
Organized by the University of Zaragoza, the
conference is attended by scholars and
thinkers of different faiths from Spain and
other European countries.
The nature of cultural and civilizational
interactions between European Muslims and
Christians, common civilizational
coexistence, cultural relations between
Islam and the west, and cultural challenges
Muslims face in Europe are among the themes
of the conference.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Zaragoza
Mayor, Juan Alberto Belloch said organizing
the conference in Zaragoza signifies the
peace and tolerance of the city despite its
multicultural population.
He stressed that the conference is an
important step towards creating more harmony
and cooperation among the city’s religious,
ethnic and cultural communities.
Mr. Belloch also said that an
Islamic-cultural center would be launched in
Zaragoza in the near future where the city’s
Muslims, estimated at 20,000, can do their
religious and cultural activities.
The conference on Islam and dialogue among
civilizations will conclude today, September
24.
